Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy, Sr

Lead Pastor

I’m Kevin McCarthy, the Pastoral Team Lead here at Discover.   I’m a homeboy, having spent almost all of my years in Macomb County.  I was raised Catholic, and developed a first-hand faith at age 16 when I trusted in Jesus to forgive me of my flaws, faults, and failures, and to really lead my life.   I sensed that God might want me in ministry at age 19 when at Wheaton College (IL).  I’ve picked up a B.A. in Biblical Studies there, and an M.A. in Pastoral Ministry.  I’ve been married for almost 23 years to the love of my life, Sondra.  We have four kids (three teens, pray for us!).    I worked in the Psych. field before transitioning into the Pastorate at age 30.  My life goals are (in order of priority) to be a: faithful follower of Jesus, great husband, great dad, good neighbor, and good pastor.   I love to trail run, cycle, garden, & back-pack –especially with my kids.  My goal is to finish strong in faith, family, and life.

What motivates me in ministry are people who’ve been turned off by, tuned out to, or turned away by church-as-usual.   What drives me as a Pastor are all of my neighbors, friends & family, former classmates & co-workers who’ve given up on “church” because it’s boring, irrelevant, impractical, hypocritical, unloving, not understandable or safe ---that wrecks me!  That’s why I’m leading the charge, and going for broke to show God’s love and share God’s truth in relevant, appealing, and understandable ways here at Discover Church.  If you’ve given up on church, but not on God… or even if you’ve given up on God because of church, I want you to come and give us a try, as the writer of Psalm 32 invites: Discover for yourself the kindness of God, come to him… and you’ll be glad.”   If you’re already a Christ-follower, and share my passion about connecting our county to Christ  --I want you on our team!  Show up, roll-up your sleeves; let’s get goin’.

Jon Enciso

Associate Pastor - Youth and Administration

Hi everyone, I’m Jon Enciso and I oversee the Student Ministry and Administration for Discover Church.  I was raised in Romeo, MI, where I graduated from Romeo High School.  During my time in Romeo I attended First Baptist Church and then Macomb Christian Community Center (the founding church of Discover Church).  After graduation I attended college in Iowa where I met and married Janet Blake.  Shortly after our wedding, I joined the U. S. Navy and proudly served for 14 years, 6 in the Submarine Force and 8 in the Judge Advocate General’s Corp. My final tour of duty was at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island where we remained for an additional 5 years while attending Bible College at Zion Bible College in Barrington, Rhode Island and Vineyard Leadership Institute in New Bedford, Massachusetts.  During my time in Newport, I was employed as the Firm Administrator for a national civil litigation law firm.

I have served as a Pastor with the Assemblies of God and the Association of Vineyard Churches, USA.  Additionally, I am on the Board of Directors for CTM Ministries and a Lead Facilitator for Ministry Leadership Today.

My wife Janet and I recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and reside in Rochester Hills with our daughters, Katie and Jordan, and our son, Blake.
